Born out of the 2010 LA Auto Show’s Los Angeles Design Challenge, in which automotive designers are given free range to envision the future of transportation, the Biome is meant to blend seamlessly into the planet’s ecosystem. That means all components of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Sport Cars Biome Concept car are “grown” organically, and it emits pure oxygen and is fully compostable at the end of its service life.

The basis for the Biome Concept is a vehicle that "grows in a completely organic environment from seeds sown in a nursery." Not only that, but it's powered by a combination of the sun and a chemical bond from an imaginary liquid dubbed BioNectar4534. It's all natural, all organic and all science fiction.
"As the inventor of the motor car, we wanted to illustrate the vision of the perfect vehicle of the future, which is created and functions in complete symbiosis with nature. The Mercedes-Benz BIOME is a natural technology hybrid, and forms part of our earth's ecosystem. It grows and thrives like the leaves on a tree" according to Hubert Lee, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios in Carlsbad.

This year the competition had called for the creation of a vision of a safe and comfortable 2+2 compact car featuring good handling and a first-class design, and weighing only 1,000 lbs (around 454 kg/kerb weight).
The 2010 Mercedes-Benz Sport Cars Biome Concept symbiosis vehicle is made from an ultralight material called BioFibre and tips the scales at just 875.5 lbs (around 394 kg). This material is significantly lighter than metal or plastic, yet more robust than steel. BioFibre is grown from proprietary DNA in the Mercedes-Benz nursery, where it collects energy from the sun and stores it in a liquid chemical bond called BioNectar4534.

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz Sport Cars Biome Concept is powered by BioNectar4534, which is stored in the BioFibre material of the chassis, interior, and wheels. In addition, Mercedes-Benz has developed a technology to equip trees with special receptors which can collect the excess solar energy and turn it into BioNectar4534. This creates a direct link with nature's energy sources and acts as an incentive to cover mobility energy requirements through more trees and at the same time maintain natural resources.
The Los Angeles Design Challenge is part of the Design Los Angeles conference, taking place from 17 to 18 November 2010 as part of the Los Angeles Auto Show.

A couple days ago Porsche released a press statement saying that it will unveil a new “mid-engine sports car” at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, it’s 2011 Porsche Cayman R. The Porsche alphabet reserves the letter R for very special sports cars: R for responsive and refined – but most especially for racy. The new Cayman R combines all these attributes without compromise. 2011 Porsche Sport Cars Cayman R has further developed the car by reducing weight, increasing horsepower and raising agility and handling to new heights.
Weighing 55 kg less than the equivalent Cayman S, and the new mid-engine coupé from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is designed for spectacular road behaviour, the 330 hp Porsche Cayman R has been created for one reason: pure, distilled driving dynamics. With its highly-tuned sports suspension and vigilant attention to weight savings, the new Cayman model offers a driving experience even more precise than that of the acclaimed Cayman S. Power for the 2011 Porsche Sport Cars Cayman R comes from a tuned 3.4L inline 6-cylinder engine making a total of 330-hp allowing for a 0-62 mph time of 5 seconds when mated to a 6-speed manual and 4.9 seconds when mated to Porsche’s 7-speed PDK transmission. Adding the optional Sport Chrono packages brings the 0-62 mph time down to 4.7 seconds. Top speed for the 2011 Porsche Sport Cars Cayman R comes in at 175 mph with a 6-speed manual and 174 mph with the PDK.
For interior 2011 Porsche Sport Cars Cayman R has features Alcantara and leather upholstery, sport seats, strap door handles and a painted console color-keyed to the exterior. Under the skin, the suspension has been enhanced with shorter, more rigid springs and there are customized anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles (the ride height is about 20 millimeters lower than the Cayman S).

Tracing its lineage back to the famous mid-engined 904 coupes of the 1960s, the Porsche Cayman R celebrates its world premiere at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17, 2010.

Peugeot Diesel Terkendala Pompa Bensin


Jakarta, 26 November 2010. Di Eropa Peugeot adalah salah satu manufaktur yang terkenal dengan mesin-mesin dieselnya. Bahkan, ATPM berlambang Singa ini mampu menjuarai ajang balap ketahanan 24 jam Le Mans melalui Peugeot 908 HDI FAP, sekaligus mengakhiri keperkasaan Audi (juga bermesin diesel).

Pun demikian, PT Astra International -Peugeot Sales Operation, masih enggan untuk memasarkan kembali mobil bermesin diesel di Indonesia. Padahal, dahulu mereka pernah menjual 807 bermesin diesel. "Peugeot memang memiliki mesin-mesin diesel yang hebat. Tapi, kami belum memiliki rencana untuk memasukkan Peugeot bermesin diesel (termasuk 5008 bermesin diesel) di Indonesia," ujar C. Herlijoso, Chief Executive Astra International Peugeot menjawab pertanyaan kami tentang kapan kiranya Peugeot meniagakan mobil bermesin diesel saat peluncuran Peugeot 5008 di restoran Harum Manis, Jakarta.

Lalu, apa alasannya? "Dari hasil survey yang kami lakukan, jumlah tempat pengisian BBM yang meniagakan diesel bermutu masih sedikit jumlahnya. Apalagi mesin diesel Peugeot sudah ramah lingkungan sehingga membutuhkan diesel bersulfur rendah. Kalau pun ada, tempat pengisian BBM itu meniagakan diesel bermutunya dalam jerrycan, sehingga akan menyulitkan konsumen kami. Itu juga hanya terkonsentrasi di Pulau Jawa,"lanjut C. Herlijoso.

Hal serupa dirasakan pula oleh ATPM yang meniagakan mobil berbahan bakar diesel bersulfur rendah lainnya (seperti BMW). Andai saja pemerintah lebih peka terhadap masalah ini, bukan tidak mungkin mesin diesel ramah lingkungan dan hemat BBM akan membanjiri Indonesia.

Untuk transmisinya dipilih transmisi otomatis 6-speed. Mengimbangi performanya, 5008 telah lulu uji keselamatan Euro NCAP dengan hasil 5 bintang untuk perlindungan penumpang dewasa.

Peugeot 5008 dijual dalam dua pilihan yakni Premium Rp 475.500.000 (on the road), dan Premium Pack. "Untuk Premium Pack masih kami pertimbangkan harga yang sesuai dengan kondisi Indonesia," ujar C. Nissan Buka Dealer di Tasikmalaya



JAKARTA, 26 November 2010. PT Nissan Motor Indonesia (NMI) menambah jaringan penjualannya menjadi 51 outlet dengan mulai beroperasinya Nissan Juanda di Tasikmalaya. 

“Nissan Juanda Tasikmalaya resmi beroperasi bulan Oktober lalu sebagai dealer Nissan ke-51 secara nasional. Jawa Barat merupakan wilayah potensial Nissan. Today introduced the first prototype of the Spyder version of its all-new second-generation sports cars, the Spyker C8 Aileron. For the first time, British motoring enthusiasts visiting the annual celebration of performance motoring will be able to lay their eyes on one of the most exclusive cars in the world.

The Spyker C8 Aileron is an advanced mid-engine, two-seat sports cars, featuring a longer wheelbase than Spyker's existing sports cars, the C8 Laviolette and convertible C8 Spyder. The Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder sports a high-quality, semi-automatic canvas soft-top. The roof's operation is electric/hydraulic, secured by one central latch operated manually.
The 2010 Spyker Sport Cars C8 Aileron Spyder uses the Audi 4.2 litre V8 engine, delivering 400 bhp and is available with two transmission alternatives. The first one is a 6-speed Getrag manual gearbox, with ratios perfectly matched to the V8 engine. A ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox is optional, which comes standard with paddle shifts behind the steering wheel. Both transmissions retain Spyker's trademark exposed gear change mechanism.

The 2010 Spyker Sport Cars C8 Aileron Spyder features an all-aluminium V8 engine producing 400 bhp and generating 354 lbs of torque at 3,400 rpm. The engine is paired to a manual six-speed gearbox, driving the rear wheels via a limited slip differential. For the first time, Spyker is offering an optional automatic transmission on the C8 Aileron. The Aileron delivers a top speed of 300km/h (187 mph) and accelerates from standstill to 60 mph in a mere 4.5 seconds.
The 2010 Spyker Sport Cars C8 Aileron Spyder is fitted with a brand new front and rear independent double-wishbone suspension system developed by Lotus. The new suspension system includes a new kinematic layout of the front and rear suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, mono-tube dampers, coil over damper steel springs, anti-dive and anti-squat setup for improved handling properties.

2011 Audi E-Tron Concept Cars

The e-tron Spyder rides on a 95.7-inch wheelbase, which is 8.7 inches shorter than that of the R8. At 159.8 inches long, 71.3 inches wide, and 43.7 inches tall, it's slightly larger than the hardtop e-tron shown in January at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show but still considerably smaller than an Audi TT.
Design-wise, the e-tron Spyder is similar to the Detroit car, but with a more aggressive look thanks to its crisper lines and new fascias. The front fascia has larger, bolder-looking grille elements, while the rear end is completely different.

Jakarta, 24 November 2010. Salah satu cara mengatasi dampak pencemaran udara di Jakarta adalah dengan memakai mobil yang ramah lingkungan. Untuk itu, PT Mercedes Benz Indonesia bekerjasama dengan PT Siemens Indonesia, berinisiatif meminjamkan satu unit mobil listrik Smart Ed. Sedangkan stasiun mini pengisian ulang baterai disumbangkan dari Siemens kepada Pemerintah Kota DKI Jakarta.

Kehadiran Smart Ed dan Siemens mini baterai charger dijadikan sebagai proyek percontohan penggunaan energi alternatif serta sebagai bukti seberapa efektif penggunaan mobil nol emisi. “Semoga pinjaman alat berteknologi canggih ini mampu membantu pemerintah DKI Jakarta dalam menemukan solusi tepat untuk pengentasan masalah transportasi dan perubahan iklim yang saat ini sedang dirasakan warga Jakarta, ujar Endang Widjajanti, Wakil Kepala Badan Pengelola Keuangan DKI Jakarta.

Penandatanganan kesepakatan peminjaman unit ini dilakukan oleh Rudi Borgenheime, Presiden Direktur PT Mercedes Benz Indonesia (MBI), dan Hans Peter Haesslein , Presiden Direktur PT Siemens Indonesia serta Wakil kepala Badan Pengelola Keuangan DKI Jakarta, Endang Widjajanti disaksikan oleh Gubernur Provinsi DKI Jakarta, Fauzi Bowo.

Presiden Direktur PT Mercedes Benz Indonesia Rudi Borgenheimer mengatakan, Inilah pertama kali sebuah kota di ASEAN menerima unit Smart Ed sebagai bahan proyek pengujian. Ini menunjukan bahwa Indonesia sebagai negara yang penting bagi Daimler AG dalam hal kontribusi teknologi masa depan yang ramah lingkungan.

Rekor Baru Daihatsu

Jakarta, 24 November 2010. PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) sudah menjual mobil di Indonesia sebanyak 2 juta unit selama 37 tahun di Indonesia. 1 juta unitnya tercapai hanya dalam kurun waktu 5 tahun. Penjualan 1 juta unit tersebut tercatat di Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI) dan penghargaan tersebut diserahkan oleh Jaya Suprana.

Jumlah 2 juta unit tercapai pada bulan Oktober lalu. Acara ini bertempat di Assembly Plant Daihatsu, Sunter Jakarta Utara. acara ini dihadiri oleh M.S Hidayat (Menteri Perindustrian), Koichi Ina sebagai Presiden Direktur Daihatsu Motor Company, Takashi Nomoto sebagai Presiden Direktur ADM, Kojiro Shiojiri dari Duta Besar Jepang, Budi Darmadi dari Kementrian Perindustrian, dan para suplier, dealer, dan phak terkait.

“Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara terpenting bagi Daihatsu. Proses produksi Daihatsu di Indonesia melibatkan 155 perusahaan lokal pemasok komponen level pertama dan 850 perusahaan di level kedua dengan melibatkan 507.000 tenaga kerja,” ujar Sudirman Maman Rusdi, Wakil Presiden Direktur ADM .

2010 Ford Focus Race Car Concept is form the base for the Blue Oval’s next global touring race car. This car has showed its world premiere at LA Auto Show on a week ago.

Ford Focus Race Car Concept powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the new racing model will get its first shot on the tarmac at the 2011 British Touring Car Championship.

Ford collaborated with various race teams from around the world in order to make sure that the new car meets rules governing circuit racing in the United States and beyond for the creation of the Focus racer.
The Race Car Concept has been upgraded with AST performance dampers, sport sway bars provided by Ford Racing and enormous, 320 mm front brakes, for extreme stopping power. Hoosier race tires wrap around the 18-inch Anthracite alloy wheels.
Interior for racer includes a roll cage and a Recaro racing seat with a six-point safety harness, alongside a fire suppression system. The AIM MXL Pista dashboard has a digital layout and features, among other data, a tachometer, rev counter and gear position indicator.

Total di Motor Sport

Honda Civic Type R

People say school days are the best days of your life but I disagree. For me university was quite simply brilliant fun (and hard work I promise), for three years which quite frankly outstrips anything else I've encountered. Whether it was learning about something I actually had an interest in (handily for this article I studied journalism), the social aspect which encompassed partying, constant football playing and music shopping, or living away from home and growing up, I'm not sure. Throughout the three years there was one motivation to actually sit down and write my essays and it was a picture on my bedroom wall. Neither of Kelly Brook, nor great literature scholars but of a Honda Civic Type R.

The thing I loved about the Honda was that the standard Civic was so boring to look at and drive that you seemingly needed at least 65 years of life experience before being able to own one. Don't get me wrong, just because it was boring to drive doesn't mean it wasn't a good car, it was just very safe and sensible and, well it was for old people. The Type R badge didn't just add a few thousand pounds to the price tag; it transformed the retirement home company car into a snarling piece of motoring exotica that I aspired to own one day if I studied hard.

I'd struggle to win the argument that it looks much different from the standard model, with 17 inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and twin exit exhaust the only obvious external differences. This however was more than enough for me to start salivating and by the time I read the performance figures I needed oxygen. A 2 litre VTEC engine lurked under the bonnet producing 197bhp, revving to a crazy 8,250rpm and dragging the car from 0-60mph in a mere 6.6 seconds. To put it more succinctly, it was as if Honda had strapped a rocket to a mobility scooter.

Inside you weren't met with the most luxurious cabin but racing seats, white dials and a brushed aluminium gear knob offered further evidence that speed really was the only priority for this car. The gearbox is mounted on the dashboard which appears odd at first but it falls so easily to hand and changes so slickly, you'll be converted in minutes. Despite it being front wheel drive, the car handled superbly thanks in no small measure to it's expensive independent rear suspension (something Honda have skimped on with the latest derivative) and communicative feedback through the steering wheel.

Quite rightly in the little Honda's lifespan (2001 - 2006) it became the biggest selling fast hatchback, smashing all modest targets Honda HQ in Japan had. Priced at a tad under £16,000 and delivering all you could want in a driving experience, this was hardly a surprise.

The big question then is, three years on from graduating from university do I have a Honda Civic Type R on my driveway? Um, no but my 'I really want one of those' radar is still twitching very strongly. The very exciting news however is that prices are now reaching a level where this extraordinary car is accessible to the majority - and very possibly me too. A low mileage four-year-old car is now valued at £8,000 (add £400 for air conditioning).

This being a Honda, there should be very little to worry about with a car of this age, the VTEC engine is one of the most reliable in the world and the car itself is well put together, so don't expect to find doors hanging off. As with any used car though it's important to check some key points.

Firstly the car was available in red, black and silver. If the one you're looking at is white it's an import from Japan which may have an extra 20bhp but will be difficult to insure, will depreciate quickly and will have your Honda dealer running for the horizon. The turning circle isn't great on the Type R so check the alloy wheels for signs of a struggle against the kerbs and whilst you're there, have a look at the side skirts for speed hump damage.

Other than that the Type R is as widely praised now as it was when new and with the new model now on sale this version should become more readily available. As a final plus point (if one was needed) it's faster and handles better than the new model. Right I can't wait any longer...I'm off to buy one.
